Monsters of Rock Cruise – Day 1 (w/ Tyketto, Pretty Maids, Autograph) on February 11, 2018 [Photos]

There’s a snow storm happening in Toronto and what better time to escape then by heading to Miami for the eighth annual Monsters of Rock Cruise? Spending 6 days on a luxury liner in the Caribbean sounds quite appealing in and of itself, now add 40+ rock bands and stops on two private beaches (one on Coco Cay in The Bahamas, the other on Labadee in Haiti) and you’re living and partying like a rockstar for a week.
The cruise boasts non-stop concerts from morning till late in every venue the ship, Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of The Seas, has to offer. Time to pull out the schedule and decide which shows I want to catch tonight…. There are so many events and concerts that you almost have to plan your day around what shows you want to see, and it’s near impossible to see everyone you want. Luckily though, almost band performs at least twice over the week.
Day 1 included a headline set by Tyketto, along with killer shows by Pretty Maids and Autograph.

Three world class guitarists — and even beyond the realms of intergalactic boundaries as far as the music that exudes from their guitars is concerned — performed at Toronto’s Massey Hall last week. Joe Satriani brought his G3 tour through town, accompanied on stage by Phil Collen (of Def Leppard), as well as John Petrucci (of Dream Theater).
These guitarists make their instruments absolutely sing on an individual level, but get the three of them playing together at the same time, well, now you’re talking pure magic. Each musician played an individual set show-casing their unique styles of playing. Phil Collen with his band Delta Deep started the evening off with some real southern fried blues. It was down and dirty, raunchy and GOOD!
Next on stage was John Petrucci with his band for a set of incredibly technical heavy metal; headbangin’ and kick-ass rock tunes were to be had! And then came Joe Satriani! The sounds that come out of this man’s guitar are nothing short of amazing. I swear there were moments when I heard the guitar singing to him, with a human voice.
Finally, all three guitar virtuosos hit the stage together to a standing ovation. When they played together, accompanied by Debbi Blackwell-Cook on vocals, it was sheer joy in the faces of the crowd.

Sleeping With Sirens (w/ Set It Off) @ Danforth Music Hall (Toronto, ON) on January 26, 2018 [Photos & Show Review]

Florida rockers Sleeping With Sirens stopped at the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto on their “Gossip World Tour,” along with opening act Set It Off who also hail from Florida. Set It Off were already on stage and into their third song as I arrived at the venue. At first, I wondered if I had accidentally wandered into the wrong venue as the band were doing a cover of the Backstreet Boys. Judging by the shrieking young girls that were the majority of the crowd, they loved it!
I think we’ve stumbled across a new music genre, I would describe it as “Bubblegum Metal”. Set It Off had quite the stage presence, and had everyone bouncing around. Fittingly, they really did “Set It Off” for the evening.
Headliners Sleeping With Sirens seemed to start their set off with a minor technical glitch. The vocals were missing through part of the first song, but the powerhouse guitarists made it almost seamless. The audience didn’t seem to mind either, they were bouncing around, partying and having a grand old time. Just as a Friday night should be spent… listening to heavy rock in the city!
Sleeping With Sirens’ Setlist:
01. Feel
02. Low
03. Go Go Go
04. Better Off Dead
05. Empire To Ashes
06. Hole In My Heart
07. One-Man Army
08. 2 Chord
09. Gossip
10. The Strays
11. Trouble
12. Fly
